Vintage Performance was created in 2001 by Michael Friedlander M.D. to both restore and collect muscle cars.
Michael found his first muscle car, a 1967 GT 500 Shelby in 1976 when he was 16 and fully restored it.
Since then he has acquired and restored many Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes.
After outgrowing his 5,000 sf building, Michael and his staff of 6 moved to their current 25,000 sf facility.
They are able to complete full in-house restoration with their staff, as well as maintain the
Vintage Performance Boss racecar.
Mike Friedlander M.D. started in SCCA racing in 2001 racing a Porsche 911 in the GT2class
for 2 years, then a 2001 Corvette Z06 in T1 class. At the same time he acquired the #17 car, which is a
factory race car built by CarKraft by a group of ther employees and dubbed the "moonlighter" because
they raced it on the side on weekends. When Carkraft went out of business in 1970 the car was sold and
ended up in England where it ran their version of Trans Am in 1971-1973 by Martin Birraine, who now
owns Lola cars. The car was sponsored by Kona Coffee at that
time. It was then sold several times and ran hill climbs in England into the 1980's. It was brought
back to the US in the late 80's and restored to it's current state. He has raced the car in numerous
vintage events 2004-2007 including locations in Ohio, Michigan, California, New York, Virginia, and
Wisconsin. He also owns and races an original Shelby GT350 "R" model one of only 37 factory Shelby Mustang
race cars built in 1965, car #0530 which was originally shipped to Peru in 1965 and became Peruvian
champion, raced into the 1970's and brought back and restored in the US. He acquired the car from a
museum in Florida in 2004. It has been raced by him in Shelby National races, as well as the reunion of
R models that competed in Portland Oregon in 2005.
